Samarkand is the heart of the Silk Road and the capital of Amir Timur's empire. On this walking tour you'll see the city's most important monuments in a single route and hear their stories from a local guide. We start at Gur-e-Amir, the mausoleum of Amir Timur and his descendants. Beneath golden patterns and a turquoise dome, your guide explains how the great conqueror and his family came to rest here. Next is Registan Square, where we explore how the Ulugh Beg, Sher-Dor and Tilya-Kori madrasas were built, how they once served as a centre of learning and trade, and the secrets behind their tilework. Along the way we pass the Bibi-Khanym Mosque, the Hazrat Khizr Mosque and Siab Bazaar, giving you a taste of everyday local life. The tour ends at the Shah-i-Zinda necropolis, a street of mausoleums covered in turquoise and blue tiles and one of the most beautiful places in Samarkand. The tour runs even with just 1–2 guests, so there is plenty of time for questions, conversation with your guide and photos. We recommend comfortable shoes and bringing water. Meeting point: Gur-e-Amir complex. End point: Shah-i-Zinda. No transfer after the tour. The exact meeting point and guide details are sent via WhatsApp/Telegram after booking.
